The many foreign tourists who flock to the city of Florence all year round are usually not satisfied with visiting the most iconic places in the city. It is not uncommon, in fact, to notice fleets of small vans that take them out of the town center; suddenly the landscape changes and the white marble of the churches and monuments is replaced by hills dotted with olive groves and vineyards. These are the Colli Fiorentini, the area where the Chianti awarded as Rosso dell'Anno in the Gambero Rosso 2025 Vini d'Italia guide is produced.
But not only that: in fact in Berebene 2025, when we cross-referenced the scores with the prices of the wines tasted, we realized that the Regional Prize of Tuscany would also go to a Chianti Colli Fiorentini, the Sorrettole from the La Querce Winery.
La Querce, owned by the Marchi family since 1962, takes its name from the large oak tree that stood in front of the villa, cut down by the Germans during the last world war and extends over the hill overlooking Impruneta, in the heart of the Chianti Colli Fiorentini production area.
Marco Ferretti, who has managed it on behalf of the family since 1985, has worked hard in recent years to improve the quality of the products: one of the fundamental stages of this process was the replanting of almost all the vineyards, both with the traditional Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino vines, and with Merlot. There are two cellars: one for winemaking, with fermentation vats and steel tanks, with a room located partly underground, for bottle aging; the other under the villa, where there are the barriques, a historic cellar and the tasting room.
The wines offered by the La Querce Winery have a sober figure and are well executed, drawing mainly from the classic Tuscan varieties, maturing in small and large wood but also in terracotta. The Chianti Colli Fiorentini Sorrettole '22 is one of the flagship wines of the house. It is a blend where Sangiovese is a strong majority, to which are added quotas of Canaiolo, Merlot and Colorino. After vinification and aging in steel it presents itself with a fresh and deep sip and a tasty and dynamic gustatory progression, accompanied by an intense olfactory range that recalls plum, black cherry and marasca cherry, with touches of undergrowth, licorice and balsamic.
For the Berebene 2025 guide by Gambero Rosso it is the wine with the best quality-price ratio in Tuscany
