Château de Parenchère: A Giant Step towards the Future with its Organic Certification
Château de Parenchère, an emblematic figure of the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, is reaching a new milestone in its commitment to the environment and authenticity. After several years of effort and passion, the estate is pleased to announce the long-awaited achievement of Organic certification (AB). A victory that not only marks the culmination of meticulous work but also the affirmation of a more sustainable future for wine and viticulture.
An Estate in Search of Perfection
Located in the far east of Bordeaux, on the edge of the Dordogne (Sainte-Foy-La Grande), Château de Parenchère is a vast wine estate with 60 hectares of vines extending over 188 hectares of clay-limestone hills. The estate, whose history dates back to the 16th century, is recognized worldwide for the quality of its wines and the rigor of its approach.
Since its creation, the estate has continued to favor cultivation methods that respect the land and biodiversity, with the deep conviction that these practices directly contribute to the most identity-based expression possible of its Terroir and therefore to the quality of its wines.
A Journey Toward Organic Agriculture
The history of the organic certification of Château de Parenchère is above all a story of passion and commitment. The Château has always been committed to demonstrating ecological leadership and embodying the ethics of responsible viticulture. From the beginning, the estate has sought to minimize its environmental impact by using sustainable practices. The objective has been to integrate agronomic solutions that do not just preserve the quality of the soil and the vines, but also actively participate in the ecological balance of its beautiful terroir.
The process of converting to organic farming is a journey that began nearly 20 years ago. Gradually, it was necessary to rethink a large part of agricultural practices: abandoning synthetic chemical products, using only organic fertilizers and natural treatments, practicing sowing plant cover in the vines to increase organic matter and life in the soil, etc. Each step was a learning experience, each challenge taken on was a further step towards obtaining this certification.
Château de Parenchère has also integrated a series of innovations aimed at reducing its ecological footprint while continuing to produce high-quality wines. From water management to reducing inputs, the estate has implemented practices that combine traditional know-how and technical innovations.
A journey not without obstacles
Although the estate had officially been in Sustainable Agriculture since 2011, with the High Environmental Value (HEV) certification – Level 3, the final stages of implementing the AB specifications were not without challenges with virulent mildew attacks and significant crop losses.
The estate was aware of this reality: due to its climate, Bordeaux is a region in which ecological commitment has a high price to pay.
This commitment would not have been possible without the unwavering support of a loyal and passionate clientele, in search of authentic and distinctive Bordeaux wines produced in sustainable viticulture.
The obtaining of organic certification by Château de Parenchère on December 20 is therefore a collective victory. It is a victory for the environment, a victory for sustainable viticulture, and above all, a victory for lovers of fine and nature-friendly wines.
