Why Villa Tempora is worth your time:
From Afghanistan to Languedoc: Amaury and Agathe's story
Villa Tempora is owned and managed by Burgundy-born Amaury Coste and Agathe Dalisson, originally from Bordeaux. The couple turned their hands to winegrowing in 2017 after meeting in Afghanistan's capital city of Kabul where they were working on international aid projects.
Soil, variety and vinification
Villa Tempora will presenting a range of wines to trade members this spring. Each of the wines listed below has its own distinct identity and is the result of three elements: a dominant grape variety, a soil type, and a specfic vinification method.
Villa Tempora will also present three easy-drinking wines: les Copains d'Abord 2024 (a blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah and Grenache), Un Temps pour Elle 2024 (a blend of 50% Terret, 25% Bouboulenc and 25% Carignan with six months of barrel ageing) and Rosé Bonheur 2022, a feisty deep pink blend of mainly Mourvèdre with a lick of Syrah that begs for dishes enhanced with warm north African or Asian spice.
Philosophy
Agathe and Amaury's approach is resolutely modern, single-minded and informed. A commitment to sustainability informs everything they do, as illustrated by the choice to move to one single label, a lighter bottle and no capsules for their entry level wines, Les Copains d'Abord and Rosé Bonheur.
The duo coaxes the best from their vineyards to create wines with a sense of place, ideally suited to bistronomic dining. Dishes based around quality, simple, seasonal ingredients elevated by high-level culinary techniques are the perfect companions to these wines, which are made with very little extraction and a light touch; they have the crunchy-crisp character of just-ripe fruit.

About Villa Tempora
Villa Tempora is in the south of France, roughly 20 km (43 miles) from the Mediterranean coast, in the foothills of the Cévennes national park; the towns of Pézenas, Béziers and Montpellier are all close by.
The estate's 10 hectares of vines are all within the AOP Languedoc Pézenas designation, an area known for its mosaic of soils and in particular for basalt, a vestige of ancient volcanic activity. Thanks to the combination of soil types and terroir, Mediterranean sunshine and northerly winds, the vines planted here 40 - 80 years ago make expressive, elegant wines.
The vineyards are planted with historic Languedoc varieties such as Bourboulenc, Carignan Blanc, Carignan Gris and Terret Bourret (aka Terret Gris), which are well-suited to the region's climate. Red varieties include Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Syrah.
The grapes are hand-harvested, and vinification is based on traditional methods and minimal intervention, with gentle infusion by maceration rather than heavy extraction. The wines are neither fined nor filtered, and contain only the lightest dose of SO2 (typically ten times less than the authorised amount) to ensure their stability. Villa Tempora has held the Ecocert Organic Agriculture certification since 2011. Annual production is roughly 25,000 bottles.
